On a minor exit, Eric Brunson won the Rally of Basse Normandie with his own Fiat Punto Rally K/10 previously driven in Italian championship by Andrea Panicco.
The regional rally had several cars and drivers enroled at the startup, from 4WD turbocharged cars to 2L kit cars, like Renault Megane and Peugeot 306 Maxi. Nevertheless Eric Brunson was able to settle out the right pace and outperformed even his own expectations getting the first absolute place, just in front of several more powerful cars.
This is the first time a Fiat Punto Rally wins a rally in France, although another Fiat Punto competed in the French championship in the 2002 Super1600 French championship, the car driven by Piergiorgio Deila brought by team Hitec.
"I m very proud of that! There was no problem with the car" commented Eric. "In my opinion, the Punto is a very good rally car, better than the Saxo. I
'm very quick with this car. So, this year I want to prove that in France.
And then, with the results, I hope that Fiat France will give me the help
that I need."
At the end of July (26-28th), Eric Brunson will try to pace in another rally, Montaigne Noire Rally near Toulouse, valid for the French championship.
